Balanced ME™ with Ayo Lawrence
I was at an event a while ago, and based on the conversations we had, I was christened “The Minister of Enjoyment”.
At this, I laughed so hard because it was apt.
Life is meant to be lived FULL & FREE And Self-care is one of those gifts a human being can give to himself or herself.
I have here a few definitions of Self-care
Self-care is a process of taking care of yourself with behaviours that promote health and active management of illness when it occurs.
Self-care refers to anything you do to improve your well-being and happiness.
Self-care is any task that helps you to take care of yourself. It can relate to emotional well-being, relationships, physical health, or mental health.
Self-care is simply treating yourself well and giving the body what it NEEDS.
Self- care is the FUTURE
WHY SELF- CARE?
● It shows you LOVE YOU
● It helps you perform at your best so you can serve from your overflow
● It helps maintain self-confidence and self-esteem – it boosts inner strength
● It makes you more aware of your personal needs - physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
● It allows you to be resilient
● It helps you feel well-rested and energized
WAYS OF ENGAGING IN SELF CARE
To ensure your self-care routine is effective, it’s a good idea to follow a basic checklist. Think about:
1. What you want to improve?
2. Why you want to improve it?
3. The type of self-care you need most
4. Creating a NO list
5. Start gradually
Your ROUTINE/ ACTIVITY/ PLAN should be based on your NEED per time, just ensure it is ENJOYABLE, RELAXING, or STIMULATING and this leads to BALANCE AND MENTAL WELL BEING
SELF –CARE ROUTINES/ ACTIVITIES/ PLANS
1. FORGIVE Yourself and others quickly
2. Practice gratitude always - feel gratitude
3. Journal
4. Practice affirmation/ incantation
5. Engage in meditation - I use the Calm App
6. Relax and just be with yourself
7. Sit out in the evening and watch the sun set or at night to relish the stars and the moon
8. Exercise at home -:Walk At Home by Leslie Sansone on YouTube is my all time favourite or at the gym
9. Take a soothing bath/ shower. Let the water run down your head
10. Try something new – painting, cook a new recipe, sew, etc.
11. Go on a walk in the neighbourhood
12. Hike to connect with nature
13. Read a book in a quiet place
14. Listen to great music
15. Watch a movie
16. Go on a spa date
17. Visit the beach
18. Dance and move your body
19. Go on a breakfast/ lunch/ dinner date all by yourself
The list goes on and on.
So this week and ongoing, which Selfcare routine are you committing yourself to?
In all, always remember to be gentle with yourself – you are doing the best you can.
